Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, is a prosperous, cosmopolitan city with a vibrant and friendly multi-racial populace. The magnificent Petronas Towers stand alongside modern skyscrapers, Indian and Chinese temples, colonial buildings and mosques in a unique blend of cultures and a kaleidoscope of traditions. See Tour OZ3 for our fabulous "Double Header" Australian & Malaysian Holiday which combines two wonderful Grands Prix with a stop-over in Sydney. "He's depressing," joked an ecstatic Eddie Irvine after the inaugural Malaysian Grand Prix in 1999. "He's the best number one and the best number two!" The Ulsterman, who would now go to the final round with a four point advantage, was referring of course to his Ferrari teammate. Schumacher's dominance of his peers on his return from injury cannot be overstated. He qualified a second ahead, pulled away from the field by three seconds within a couple of laps, before slowing dramatically to let Irvine catch and pass him, and then spent the next hour and a half cruising round as "rear gunner" with a frustrated Hakkinen filling his mirrors. The unmolested Irvine duly took his fourth win of the year but had to wait for the result of an appeal before the stewards' disqualification of both Ferraris, for an alleged technical infringement, was overturned. |
