“It was like an action movie in 3D,” grinned Lewis Hamilton after the 2010 Turkish GP,”I had the best seat in the house”. Lewis had been following the two Red Bulls when on lap 40, Vettel drew alongside the leader and attempted to claim the corner. Webber defended his line and the inevitable collision resulted in Sebastian’s immediate retirement though Mark managed to salvage third. Within a handful of laps McLaren were in danger of suffering a similar fate. Hamilton, now in fuel saving mode, came under attack from Jenson who nipped by on the inside of the final corner. The silver cars sped side by side down the straight before Lewis forcibly retook the lead, and the victory, into turn one.
Istanbul, once known as Constantinople, is where the Orient and Europe merge, where Islam meets Christianity, and where history meets modernity. A cradle of civilisation for millennia, this land gave rise to the Byzantine Empire when, for almost a thousand years, Constantinople was the richest city in Christendom. Then came the opulence of the Ottoman Empire which endowed the country with even greater cultural and historical treasures. A cruise along the Bosphorus, the 20-mile strait which joins the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, will allow you to compare the proliferation of palaces, mansions and fortresses on the Asian side with their counterparts on the western bank. Add to this vivid mixture a profusion of restaurants, clubs and traditional street cafes and you have an experience that will linger long in the memory. |

The natural geography of the Kurtkoy region, some 45 miles east of Istanbul, is rugged and undulating. The elevation changes missing from some modern tracks are here in abundance making this perhaps the best circuit of all for the spectator. The first corner drops away dramatically leading to some great action while the final complex provides exceptional viewing. Grandstands offered here include entry and a reserved seat, and all are expected to have a view of a giant screen. Priority prices are valid until 30th December 2010, or until stocks last. |
